HARTFORD, Conn. – Sophomore goalkeeper
Lily Dreyfuss made a career-high 16 saves in relief as the Skidmore College field hockey team battled Trinity College into double overtime before falling 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Robin L. Sheppard Field.
- Skidmore (1-2) struck first at 8:08 when Molly Van Vranken scored unassisted for her second goal of the season. Van Vranken now shares the team lead in goals with Ella Costa, Erin Ohlenbusch and Catie O'Rourke.
- Gianna DiGioacchino kept the Thoroughbreds in front with a defensive save at 22:14, denying Claire Griffith.
- Trinity (2-2) pulled even with 43 seconds remaining in the first half. Griffith scored at 29:17 on an assist from Julia Lambert.
- Nicole Sylvestri made seven saves over the opening 30 minutes before Dreyfuss took over in goal to begin the second half.
- Dreyfuss stopped all seven shots on goal she faced over the third and fourth quarters to send the game to overtime tied at one.
- The sophomore added four saves in the first overtime and five more in the second, giving her 16 stops over 49:22. Skidmore's goalkeepers combined for 23 saves.
- Riley Harrington finally ended it for Trinity at 79:22, scoring unassisted with 38 seconds remaining in the second overtime.
- Van Vranken led Skidmore with six shots, including three on goal. Izzy Blake put both of her attempts on target.
- Trinity finished with a 42-18 advantage in shots and a 26-8 edge in shots on goal. The Bantams led 12-5 in penalty corners.
