Women's lacrosse topped by William Smith

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team was knocked off by William Smith College, 10-5, in Liberty League action, Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds go to 2-8 and 1-4 in conference play, while the Herons improve to 3-6 and 3-1 in the confercence.
 
Spencer Morgan netted four goals for the second consecutive game for the Thoroughbreds and Tyler Phillips produced her fifth multi-point game of the season, while Caroline Bowne collected five ground balls and caused a game-high five turnovers. In goal, Megan Kolopsky turned away a career-high 11 shots.
 
Katie Sipple paced the Herons with two goals and two assists and Hannah Connolly and Geneva Calder both tallied a pair of goals. In goal, Sarah Honan made nine saves to go along with four caused turnovers and five ground balls.
 
William Smith opened up a 2-0 lead just over two minutes into the contests on goals from Allie Flaherty and Calder. Phillips netted her team-high 18th goal of the season to cut the Skidmore deficit to one, but the Herons potted four unanswered goals over an eight and a half minute span, making in 6-1 midway through the first half. Connolly score two goals, Rachel Hughes tallied at 23:11 and Sipple found the back of the net at 14:42. Morgan recorded her first goal at 12:52, converting on a pass from Phillips, but Geneva Waite put William Smith ahead 7-2 with the final goal of the half.
 
After Alexandra Bird made it 8-2 at 16:24 of the second half, Morgan netted back-to-back goals at 16:24 and 13:26, but the Thoroughbreds could not pull any closer, as Sipple and Calder added goals at 7:24 and 1:58, respectively, putting the game out of reach. Morgan produced the game's final goal with 24 seconds remaining.
 
The Herons outshot the Thoroughbreds 25-24 and owned a 23-20 edge in ground balls and a 9-8 advantage in draw controls.
 
Skidmore goes on the road to take on the University of Rochester at 4 p.m. Friday, April 11.
