Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team battled to a 15-14 overtime win against St. Lawrence University in its final game of the season, Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
Spencer Morgan tallied six goals, including the game-winner, and produced two assists to lead the Thoroughbreds (6-10, 5-4 Liberty League).
Tyler Phillips recorded a career-high seven points, scoring four goals for the third consecutive game and adding three assists.
Hannah Calvelli had three points for the Saints (6-9, 4-5 Liberty League) with two goals and an assist. Chloe Knapp and Carly VanTassel both had a pair of goals and Caroline Bailey chipped in with a goal and a helper.
Skidmore opened up a 5-0 lead 8:43 into the game, as Morgan netted a hat trick and Phillips added two goals. The Saints responded with five unanswered goals in just under eight minutes, tying the game at 5-5 with 3:03 remaining in the first half. Calvelli got St. Lawrence on the board with 10:42 left in the first and Isabelle Mackell tallied her first goal of the season 37 seconds later. Abigail Owens cut the Saints deficit to two and Jill Carlton and Julia Mitiguy both found the back of the net to knot the score at 5-5. Morgan potted her fourth goal of the game to put the Thoroughbreds back in front at the half.
Calvelli brought St. Lawrence back on even terms 41 seconds into the second half, and after Phillips restored the one-goal Skidmore lead, VanTassel and Michaela Maybee scored back-to-back goals, giving the Saints their first lead of the game with 11:44 to play.
Caroline Bowne scored the tying goal 33 seconds later and
Brittney Dioneda put the Thoroughbreds back in front with her 10th of the season.
St. Lawrence pushed back in front with goals from Chloe Knapp and VanTassel, but
Emma Olcott equalized for Skidmore with 6:28 remaining. Knapp's second of the game gave the Saints an 11-10 lead, but again Phillips and Morgan provided the answer for the Thoroughbreds with goals 28 seconds apart, making it 12-11 with 2:30 to play. St. Lawrence took possession on the ensuing draw and Bailey managed to sneak a low shot past Skidmore goalie
Megan Kolopsky to send the game to overtime.
The Thoroughbreds pulled ahead in the extra frame as
Emma Harris took a feed from Phillips and converted from close range. Kiera Taussig's 18th goal of the season made it 13-13, but Morgan bookended the scoring for the game with 4:05 to play, producing the game-winning goal with her sixth of the contest.
Skidmore outshot St. Lawrence 26-22 and owned a 32-28 edge in ground balls and a 17-14 advantage in draw controls.
The Thoroughbreds 5-4 conference record marks the first time since the 2011 season that the team has had a winning record in league play.
