Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— There was something for everyone in Skidmore's Liberty League baseball split with the University of Rochester on Saturday at Castle Diamond.
Pitching prevailed in Skidmore's 3-2 first game win, while it was offense in game 2, with the team's combining for 29 runs and 35 hits in a 20-9 Rochester win.
The Thoroughbreds (9-19, 3-13 Liberty) and Yellowjackets (21-14, 14-8) play another two on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Castle Diamond.
In the first game, freshman pitcher
Kenny Ajello remained unbeaten with an efficient win. He allowed two runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.
Daniel Dasgupta came from behind the plate to earn his second save of the season with a perfect seventh inning.
Marco Baratta was 2-3 with an RBI.
Nick Barra was 2-3 and
Mat Marino continued his hot hitting, going 1-3 with an RBI.
For Rochester, Matt Todd went 2-4 with two RBI, while Nate Mulberg was 2-2. Dan Warren took the loss.
In the second game, Rochester started strong, batting around in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Thoroughbreds responded with eight runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. , keyed by a three-run double by Baratta.
That would be it for the Thoroughbreds, who scored once more, while the Yellowjackets tacked on another 16 runs over the next eight innings.
For Skidmore, Marino extended his hit streak to nine games, going 2-4 with two RBI and two runs. Baratta finished 2-4 with three RBI.
Nick Barra also extended his hit streak to nine, going 1-4 with a run.
Justin Willig lost in relief. He allowed four runs (one earned) in one inning. Skidmore committed five errors.
Todd scored six times in the second game for the Yellowjackets, going 1-2 with four walks. Ethan Sander was 4-5 with five runs and four RBI, while Lance Hamilton went 4-7 with three RBI. Josh Ludwig was 3-4 with two doubles and five RBI. Andrew Crean earned the win in relef after starter Josh Schulman got tagged for seven runs in just a third of an inning.
