Former Skidmore baseball assistant Mike McFerran hired as Assistant Pitching Coach with MLB’s Kansas City Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Former Skidmore College baseball pitching and associate head coach Mike McFerran was recently hired by Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals as an assistant pitching coach for its big-league club.
 
McFerran, a Capital Region native, served as Skidmore's associate head coach, pitching coach, and recruiting coordinator under head coach Ron Plourde from 2017-20. We went on to join the staff at Wake Forest University as Pitching Lab coordinator and director of player development.
 
McFerran began his professional coaching career in the spring of 2024 with the Athletics as a pitching performance coach prior to being promoted to Minor League pitching coordinator. He will now transition to a two-time World Series champion Royals staff under pitching coach Brian Sweeney. McFerran's predecessor was recently named the Chicago White Sox pitching coach.
