Skidmore holds off Williams, 4-3

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College baseball team posted a non-league 4-3 win over Williams College, Wednesday afternoon at Castle Diamond.
 
The Thoroughbreds improve to 8-18, heading into a home four-game Liberty League weekend series against Rochester.  The Ephs are 8-14.
 
Skidmore pieced together a 3-0 lead with single runs in the first, fourth, and seventh. Mat Marino drove in Alex Pavelock with a single in the first inning.
 
Josh Brown doubled with one out in the fourth and scored on a Mike LaVita single to make it 2-0. Nick Barra opened the fifth with a single and scored on a deep double from Marco Baratta for the third run.
 
Williams struck for two runs in the sixth to pull within one, 3-2. The Thoroughbreds scored a key insurance run in the seventh when Pavelock opened the inning with a walk and later scored on a Brown RBI single.
 
The Ephs made it 4-3 in the eighth, but reliever Daniel Dasgupta closed the door with a three-up, three-down ninth for his second save of the season.
 
Nick Petrella was credited with the win. He was the first of six Skidmore pitchers. He tossed three scoreless innings, allowing two hits with no walks and no strikeouts.
