Box Score 2 SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team lost the first two of its Liberty League four-game series with Union College, 4-3 and 17-1, Friday at the Central Park C Diamond.
The Thoroughbreds drop to 6-17 overall and 1-11 in league play, while the Dutchmen improve to 14-5-1 and 8-2-1.
In game one Skidmore took an early lead as
Alex Pavelock singled down the third base line to score
Mat Marino. The Thoroughbreds would tack on runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 3-0 lead before the Dutchmen finally figured out Skidmore starter
Kenny Ajello with a pair of runs in the fifth. Union then scored two in the bottom of the seventh off reliever Jeb Clark for the 4-3 win.
Josh Brown was 2-3 for Skidmore, while Ajello had a tough no-decision. He allowed two runs on four hits in six innings.
In the second game, the Thoroughbreds got on the board first in the fourth when
Mat Marino drove in Pavelock with an infield hit. The Dutchmen broke through with four in the fourth. Union went on to take advantage of six Skidmore errors on the way to the 17-1 final.
Marino was 2-3 and
Dan Miller went 2-4. Starter
Andrew Bannon took the loss, allowing three runs in five innings on six hits and five walks.
Skidmore will host Union in a pair at Castle Diamond on Saturday at 12 p.m.
