Utica holds off Skidmore, 7-5

Box Score UTICA, N.Y.-- A late second half Skidmore rally came up just short in a 7-5 women's lacrosse loss to Utica College, Wednesday evening at Spartano Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds will take a 1-1 record into their Spring Break trip to Florida. Utica evens its record at 1-1.
 
The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 start, before Tyler Phillips got Skidmore on the board with 6:51 to play in the first half. Utica tagged on one more to take a 5-1 halftime lead.  
 
A Pioneer free position goal at 27:47 of the second half made it 6-1. Peggy Healy scored at 25:26 from Brittany Dioneda to cut it to 6-2.  Utica went up 7-2 at 17:50.  Phillips then scored three straight to make it 7-5 with 7:26. The Pioneers were able to thwart the Skidmore comeback, holding the Thoroughbreds to only one shot on goal over the final 7:26.

Phillips finished with four goals for the second straight game.
 
Skidmore had a 23-21 edge in shots. Allie Sosinsky had five saves in goal for the Thoroughbreds.
 
Skidmore will play Dickinson on March 10 in Orlando.
