Dani DeGregory (Greenwich, N.Y./Greenwich) scored three goals and had two assists to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to a 5-1 win over FDU-Florham in the NCAA Division III field hockey second round, Saturday afternoon at Bowdoin College.
The Thoroughbreds (18-3), winners of 11 straight, will play the host and defending national champion Polar Bears on Sunday at 1 p.m. for a spot in next weekend's final four. Bowdoin beat Mount Holyoke 4-0 in the other regional game. Fairleigh Dickinson's season ends at 15-8. The
Sam SkottThe two teams battled back and forth throughout the opening half, with Lauren Brannan coming up with a bigdefensive save for FDU in the 17th minute. Skidmore was finally able to break through the Devils defense in the final four minutes, to go ahead 1-0. DeGregory utilized her speed down the left side to dodge an oncoming defender and take an unchallenged look at FDU goalie Amy Defnet, pushing the ball to the opposite corner for the 1-0 lead.
DeGregory and the Skidmore offense came out firing in the second half, scoring three goals in the first fifteen minutes. Carrying the length of the goal face, DeGregory found space and slipped her second goal of the game inside the right post. The junior capped off her hat trick with another solo shot fromjust inside the stroke line with twenty-one minutes remaining. Only two minutes later the Thoroughbreds took a 4-0 lead as DeGregory came down the middle and drew a Devil defender, only to dish a pass to her left.
Sam Skott was there to receive the feed and fire off a shot towards the opposite corner. The pair combined for another goal nine minutes later, as DeGregory beat two defenders and charged the end line. Skott was waiting on the left post for low pass and banged in another Skidmore goal.
With the Thoroughbreds leading 5-0 and the clock winding down, the Devils converted on their fifth overall penalty corner to spoil the shutout. With less than two

minutes remaining, Kim Davis inserted the ball to Erin O'Connell at the top of the circle. Rifling off a hard drive, O'Connell's shot headed towards the left post where a quick stick from Gabriella D'Amico redirected the ball before Skidmore goalie
Amy Beck could respond.
DeGregory leads the nation in scoring with a Skidmore record 37 goals and 15 assists for 89 points.
Beck made one save for the Thoroughbreds in a complete game performance, while Defnet made 12 stops for the Devils. Skidmore held a slight 5-4 edge in penalty corners, but a commanding 29-2 shot advantage.
