Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Middlebury scored three first half goals en route to a 4-0 non-conference win over the Skidmore College women's soccer team, Tuesday evening at Wachenheim Field.
The loss ends the Thoroughbreds five-game unbeaten streak. Skidmore goes to 3-4-2, while the Panthers move to 5-3.
Jamie Soroka's team-leading fourth goal put Middlebury in front just over five minutes into the contest. Adrianna Gildner slipped a through ball into the 18-yard box and Soroka pounced on her own rebound after her intial shot was turned away by Thoroughbreds goalkeeper
Deirdre Walsh.
Hannah Robinson doubled the Panthers lead in the 20th minute, unleashing a strike from 25 yards that dipped just underneath the crossbar. Robinson set up Middlebury's final goal of the half, surging into the box from the right wing and cutting a pass to Emma Shumway, who slotted home a shot from eight yards.
Alissa Huntington put the game away in the 65th minute with a tap-in from a well-delivered Panthers corner kick.
Skidmore nearly got on the board in the 74th minute, but
Morgan Governale's left-footed effort from 25 yards landed comfortably into the hands of Middlebury goalkeeper Emily Eslinger.
The Panthers outshot the Thoroughbreds 14-9 and owned a 4-2 edge in corners. Walsh made four saves, while Eslinger stopped three shots, earning her second shutout of the season.
Skidmore returns to Liberty League action at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7 at Bard College.
