Box Score CLINTON, N.Y. - The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team saw five different players tally a goal, but it was not enough as the Thoroughbreds lost to 16th ranked Hamilton College 16-7, Tuesday evening at Steuben Field.
Robin Fetterolf scored two goals and scooped up five groundballs in the loss.
Spencer Morgan also scored two goals and won four draw controls, while
Caroline Bowne,
Anna Gubbins and
Brittney Dioneda notched one goal each.
The Continentals were led by Emily Brodsky's game-high four goals. Rachel Friedman and Lauren Brady each recorded three points on two goals and one assist, while five other players contributed goals in the win.
Hamilton got off to a quick start, scoring 23 seconds into the first half as Brodsky beat Skidmore goaltender,
Shelby Witheford at 29:37. The Continentals won the ensuing draw control and worked the ball around the Thoroughbred zone before scoring a second goal at 28:05 to take a 2-0 lead.
Fetterolf broke the Hamilton momentum, scoring her twelfth goal of the season when she fired one past Madison Beres to halve the home team's advantage.
Hamilton countered with two more goals before Dioneda converted on the free position opportunity making it 4-2. Skidmore scored its third goal following a Witheford save when Gubbins took possession of a groundball and went to work in the offensive zone. The Thoroughbred goal would come on a shot from the circle by Fetterolf at 19:10 to make it a one-goal game.
The Continentals showcased their own offensive abilities, scoring five unanswered goals before a yellow card gave the Thoroughbreds an extra player opportunity. Gubbins buried the free position attempt at 13:10 to cut the deficit to 8-4.
Hamilton began to pull away as the first half came to a close, outscoring the Thoroughbreds four goals to one in the final 13 minutes to enjoy a 12-5 advantage at intermission.
Skidmore continued to battle in the second stanza, holding the home team scoreless in the first five minutes of action, however, Hamilton would go on to outscore the Thoroughbreds 4-2 in the second half en route to a 16-7 victory.
Witheford made nine saves in the game and takes the loss for Skidmore. Beres had seven saves, earning the win in the process.
Skidmore's seven goals came on only 16 shots, while the Continentals fired 38 shots, 24 of which came in the first half.
Skidmore, now 1-8 (0-3, Liberty League) will host Vassar College Friday at 4 p.m. at Wachenheim Field.
