Box Score 2 SCHENECTADY, N.Y.— Union College put up 23 runs on 26 hits in a 6-2, 17-12 Liberty League doubleheader sweep over Skidmore, Sunday at Central Park.
The Thoroughbreds drop to 12-20 and 8-14 in Liberty League play. The Dutchmen are 21-8 and 18-4.
In the first game, Union scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to break the game open. The Dutchmen took advantage of five Skidmore errors.
Geoff Green and
Alex Barber were both 1-2 with one RBI each for the Thoroughbreds.
Nick Petrella (4-1) pitched well in the loss, only allowing two earned runs on eight hits over six innings.
The second game was all offense with the teams combining for 29 runs on 30 hits.
Union took a 7-0 lead, before Skidmore scored three runs in the fifth on a
Marco Baratta home run to cut it to 7-3. After two Dutchmen runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Thoroughbreds responded with three more in the top of the sixth to get within three, 9-6. Union would then score two in the sixth and three in the seventh and eighth to break it open, 17-6. Skidmore tacked on six in the top of the ninth for the 17-12 final.
Baratta had a big game for the Thoroughbreds, going 2-6 with a run and five RBI.
Alex Barber was 3-3 with a run and
Matty Tatkow and
Leejay Pollacchi had two hits each.
Skidmore is at Middlebury on April 30 before a final home doubleheader on May 3 against RPI.
