Skidmore wins 11-inning marathon over Castleton, 6-5

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Matty Tatkow scored from second on a Geoff Green single up the middle in the bottom of the 11th to give the Skidmore College baseball team a 6-5 win over Castleton State College in a non-league game Thursday at Castle Diamond.

The Thoroughbreds are 12-17, while the Spartans are 23-9.  The win was the 299th career victory for Skidmore  head coach Ron Plourde who will go for number 300 Saturday at home against Liberty League leader Union College.

Green was 3-5 and reached on a walk. Before he had to leave the game for class, Leejay Pollacchi went 3-4 with two runs, an RBI, and three stolen bases. Erik Watkins was 1-4 with a two-run double in the fifth and Mike LeVita came off the bench to go 2-3 with an RBI single.

In the 11th, Tatkow reached on a one-out walk and then stole second.  With the count 2-2, Green fouled off two straight pitches, before hitting a slow grounder up the middle. Lord had a play from center, but his throw was off the mark, allowing Tatkow to score the winning run.

Bobby Stafutti (1-0) got his first win over the season with a prefect inning of relief. Patrick Riley (5-4)  took the loss, going 3 1/3 allowing one run on three hits.
