Matty Tatkow scored from second on a
Geoff Green single up the middle in the bottom of the 11
th to give the Skidmore College baseball team a 6-5 win over Castleton State College in a non-league game Thursday at Castle Diamond.
The Thoroughbreds are 12-17, while the Spartans are 23-9. The win was the 299
th career victory for Skidmore head coach
Ron Plourde who will go for number 300 Saturday at home against Liberty League leader Union College.
Green was 3-5 and reached on a walk. Before he had to leave the game for class,
Leejay Pollacchi went 3-4 with two runs, an RBI, and three stolen bases.
Erik Watkins was 1-4 with a two-run double in the fifth and Mike LeVita came off the bench to go 2-3 with an RBI single.
Tyler Lord and Joe Borowski had two hits and an RBI each for Castleton.
In the 11
th, Tatkow reached on a one-out walk and then stole second. With the count 2-2, Green fouled off two straight pitches, before hitting a slow grounder up the middle. Lord had a play from center, but his throw was off the mark, allowing Tatkow to score the winning run.
Bobby Stafutti (1-0) got his first win over the season with a prefect inning of relief. Patrick Riley (5-4) took the loss, going 3 1/3 allowing one run on three hits.
