Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College baseball team had its biggest offensive output of the season in an 11-5 non-league win over Massachusetts College of the Liberal Arts, Wednesday at Castle Diamond.
The Thoroughbreds scored 11 runs on 12 hits to improve to 8-15. The Trailblazers drop to 2-19.
Skidmore used 20 players, including six pitchers in the win.
Erik Watkins went 3-5 with a run and two RBI for the Thoroughbreds.
Marco Baratta was 2-4 with a double and three RBI.
Matty Tatkow was 2-3 with an RBI double and
Jeremy Selecky went 2-3 with a pair of runs.
Six different pitchers hit the mound for Skidmore with
Nick Petrella (4-1) picking up the win in relief.
For MCLA, Mike Sullivan was 1-3 with a solo home run in the first inning. Starter Jared Gersch (0-1) took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits over five innings.
The Trailblazers opened a 3-0 lead with Sullivan's home run in the first and a pair of runs in the second. Skidmore responded with two runs in the second on one hit, a walk, a hit batter, and an error.
The Thoroughbreds took the lead in the fourth with four runs on an RBI single by
Geoff Green and RBI doubles from Baratta, Tatkow, and
Chris Lorenz.
MCLA got one back in the fifth to cut it to 6-4. Skidmore scored three in the sixth to open it up to 9-4. Watkins had a two-run single and Baratta and an RBI single.
The Trailblazers scored their final run in the seventh to make it 9-5, before the Thoroughbreds tacked on two more in the bottom of the inning for the 11-5 final. Baratta had a sac fly and
Jeb Clarke had an RBI single.
Skidmore returns to Liberty League action with a home doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. against Vassar College.
