Baseball blanked by Rochester

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Runs were at a premium for the Skidmore College baseball team as the University of Rochester shut out the Thoroughbreds in both games of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.  The Yellowjackets won the opening game 4-0 and posted a 6-0 win in the series finale.

The Thoroughbreds are now 4-10 in League play and 7-15 overall, while Rochester moves to 6-8 in the conference standings and 10-14 overall.

The Thoroughbreds were held in check for much of the opening game as Rochester pitcher; Corey King held Skidmore scoreless, allowing four hits over six innings of work to earn his third win of the season.

Jordan Keysor moves to 0-4 on the year despite a strong pitching performance in which he allowed only one earned run to score.  The Cadyville, N.Y. native surrendered only six hits in seven innings of work.

Rochester struck in the first inning as Ethan Sanders stole home to give the Yellowjackets the 1-0 lead.  The Yellow Jackets would add to its lead in the second inning after a Skidmore error put two on with no outs for Brendan Garry who singled to left field plating an unearned run.  A strong throw from Skidmore left fielder, Marco Baratta beat Rochester's Jake Meyerson to the third base bag to keep the Yellow Jackets from potentially scoring again on an ensuing out.  Keysor would induce back-to-back groundouts to escape the inning having only allowed one run.

Skidmore held Rochester scoreless until an unearned run in the fourth pushed the lead to 3-0.  Rochester would tally another unearned run in the seventh, its third of the game en route to a 4-0 victory.

Geoff Green and Leejay Pollacchi were each 1-3, while Baratta smacked two singles in three at-bats.

In the second game, Rochester opened up another first inning lead as Sanders stole third and crossed home plate after a Skidmore error.  The Yellowjackets would score another unearned run in the second inning after Sam Slutsky singled home Chris Davis to take a 2-0 lead.

Skidmore pitcher, Isaac Forman settled down in the third inning and began to find his grove as he set down the side in order in the third, fourth and fifth innings before allowing a harmless single in the sixth inning.

Rochester would get to Forman in the seventh, however, as the Yellowjackets scored two runs after a hit batter, consecutive singles and an error pushed the score to 4-0.  Two more runs in the eighth and ninth innings sealed the deal for Rochester as they closed out the weekend series with a 6-0 win.

In the nightcap, Alex Pavelock had a strong game at the dish going 3-4.  Green was 2-4, while Casey Quinn and Baratta were each 1-4 respectively.

Nolan Schultz was 2-3 with two runs scored, while Nate Mulberg and Josh Ludwig were each 1-3 with a run scored.

Forman threw seven strong innings and allowed four runs, one of which was earned on four hits.  Adam Sullivan gets the win as he scattered five hits in six innings and did not yield a run.

The Thoroughbreds will return to action Wednesday, April 17 at 4 p.m. when they host MLCA at Castle Diamond.
