Thoroughbred offense clicks in 20-8 win over Bard

Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- Eight different players scored goals as the Skidmore College women's lacrosse team used a balanced offense in a 20-8 Liberty League win over Bard College, Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds improve to 1-4 in the Liberty League and 2-9 overall. The Raptors are 0-6 and 5-8.
 
Lexi Melville led the Skidmore attack with five goals. Emma Harris and Spencer Morgan added four goals each, while Robin Fettrolf scored three times.  
 
Stephanie LaMont had four goals for Bard.
 
Skidmore scored five of the game's first three goals to take a 5-1 lead in the game's first nine minutes. Bard stayed in it when Lamont scored three of the game's next four goals, to cut the lead to 6-4 with 7:19 to play in the first half.  Melville had the Skidmore goal to break up the run.
 
Melville and Maggie Murphy then scored consecutive goals at 5:12 and 4:08 to open the Thoroughbred lead to 8-4.  Lamont got one back with 3:32 to play for an 8-5 score, but Morgan scored with 1:24 left in the half, starting a six-goal Skidmore run that carried over into the second half, breaking the game wide open, 14-5.
 
Also scoring goals for the Thoroughbreds were Anna Gubbins, Caroline Bown, and Angela Botiba. Gubbins had a team-high five draw controls and two assists.  Peggy Healy had three assists, while Brittney Dioneda contributed two assists.
 
Skidmore outshot Bard 44-20 and had a 26-14 ground ball advantage.  The Thoroughbreds also caused 21 Raptor turnovers.
 
Shelby Witheford had fives saves in net for the win. Maddy Huggins stopped 12 shots for Bard.
 
Skidmore travels to Amherst April 16.
