Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College men's basketball team began its run for a third straight Liberty League title with a 66-56 win over Bard College, Friday night at the Williamson Sports Center.
The Thoroughbreds are 7-3 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Raptors drop to 3-5 and 0-1.
Bard made it tough on Skidmore, working the clock to keep the game within two possessions.
The game-changer came with 1:14 to play and the Thoroughbreds clinging to a 57-51 lead. Bard had a chance to cut it to one possession; however, an ill-timed Raptor turnover and ensuing technical allowed Skidmore to stretch the lead to nine, 60-51 with 1:00 left.
Tanner Brooks made one of the two free technical free throws and
Doolun Anyam scored on the Thoroughbred possession.
Brooks topped all scorers with 18 points to go along with five assists and four steals.
Connor Merrill added 12 points and
Aldin Medunjanin scored nine points and had eight rebounds.
Brian Moore chipped in nine points off the bench, going 3-4 from three-point range.
Chris McNaughton led Bard with 16 points. Lamar Powell had 13 points and Siondueh Burnette scored 12 points and had eight rebounds.
Skidmore hosts Hobart College on Saturday at 4 p.m. in a rematch of the 2012 Liberty League championship game.
