Skidmore women’s lacrosse names Erin Rigby assistant coach

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Skidmore College and women's lacrosse coach Elizabeth Ghilardi have named Erin Rigby the new assistant coach for the 2013 season.

Rigby, a 2010 graduate of Fairfield, returns from England where she has lived for the past year and a half gaining valuable experience coaching overseas.

Rigby was a 4 year starter and senior captain of the Stags' women's lacrosse team helping lead the team to three MAAC titles and the first NCAA Tournament in program history. During her senior year she was selected to the North squad for the IWLCA North-South All Star game. She finished her career with 190 total points, second in program history. Over the course of her four years, she appeared in 65 games earning her All-MAAC honors including the MAAC All-Academic Team. Upon graduation she finished in the top five in goals, assists, draw controls, and points per game.

Erin moved to England in January 2011 to work for English Lacrosse Association. She was the school coaching officer at Prestfelde School. In this role she introduced the sport of lacrosse to the school and community and started a local lacrosse club. Given her passion for lacrosse and travelling, she decided to extend her time in England as she took a second position as a Local Development Officer for the Midlands region. In this role she travelled extensively developing the sport and coaching at over 25 primary and secondary schools. She was the assistant coach for the University of Birmingham Women's Lacrosse team, which included members of the World Cup squad for Team England, making it to the final round of the BUCS (NCAA equivalent). In this position she also started the lacrosse team at the University of Worcester, which gained national recognition. She also coached the University of Warwick women's lacrosse team and at the prestigious Malvern St. James School for Girls. The U-18 squad finished 5th at the National Schools Lacrosse Tournament which included over 60 teams, and her U-15 team finished first at the Welsh Rally.

The Thoroughbreds open their 2013 season on March 2 at Mount Holyoke.
