Canton, N.Y.— The Skidmore College baseball team worked its way back into the Liberty League championship game with an 8-3 win over Rensselaer in an elimination game and a then a 7-5 elimination game  win over St. Lawrence,  Saturday at Tom Fay Field.

The Thoroughbreds (29-15) will play St. Lawrence (28-13) at 12 p.m. Sunday for the Liberty League championship and the league's automatic NCAA bid.  The Engineers end the season 23-19.

After losing their opening game, Skidmore has battled back to win three straight elimination games. The Thoroughbreds are looking to become the first team in league history to win the championship after a first game loss.

Against St. Lawrence, Skidmore took advantage of six SLU errors to score seven runs on seven hits. The Saints got to the Thoroughbreds for 15 hits, but managed only five runs, while stranding 16 runners.

Zack Rudman was 2-5 with a pair of runs and Matty Tatkow was 2-4 with an RBI.  Nick Petrella (4-1) got the win, allowing three runs in six innings of work. Isaac Forman picked-up his second save of the day and third of the tournament.

In the RPI win,  Rudman (6-3) gutted out seven innings for the win, allowing three runs on six hits with seven stike outs. Isaac Forman tossed two innings of shutout relief for the save.

Rudman helped himself out at the plate, going 2-5 with two runs and an RBI double. Brian Lowry was 3-5 with an RBI and Leejay Pollacchi went 2-5. Jesse Frehling also had a pair of hits from the number nine slot.

RPI beat the Thoroughbreds in tournament's first game, but Skidmore came through when it counted most, staving off elimination to play for the team's second league title in the past three years.
