Skidmore drops Liberty opener 7-6

Canton, N.Y.-- A walk-off single in the ninth gave RPI a 7-6 win over Skidmore in the Liberty League baseball tournament at St. Lawrence.

The loss sends the Thoroughbreds (26-15) into the loser's bracket, while the Engineers (23-18) move into the winner's bracket. Skidmore will play the loser of Friday's  St. Lawrence-Rochester first round game in an elmination game, Saturday morning at 9:30.

The Thoroughbreds spotted RPI two runs  in the bottom of the first and played from behind all game, battling back to tie it three times and take the lead once.

Down 6-4 in the seventh, Skidmore tied it for the final time when Leejay Pollacchi walked, stole second and then scored on an Erik Watkins double. Watkins then scored on a Zack Rudman double.

Rensselaer loaded the bases in the ninth with a pair of singles, a sacrifice bunt, and an intentional walk.  Andrew Kalish delivered the game-winner to right field.

It was the fourth walk off win in the last six games for the Engineers.

Geoff Green was 3-4 for the Thoroughbreds, while Watkins went 2-5 with two RBI and Matty Tatkow was 2-4. 

Issac Forman (6-3) took the loss in relief. He allowed one run on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts in three innings.  Max Martins started, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits.
