Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team fell to Liberty League foe Union, 9-8 in overtime, Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds fall to 7-5 overall and 2-4 in the league, while the Dutchwomen improve to 4-5 overall and 4-1 league.
 
The teams traded goals throughout as Union got out to the early lead on a goal from Haley Gould before Summer Segalas responded with a free position goal.  Gould found Heather Fraser to take the lead back, but Lauren Madden knotted it back up 20 seconds later.  Back-to-back goals from Fraser and Tory Cameron gave the Dutchwomen a 4-2 lead, but goals from Lexi Melville and Ali Evans sent the Thoroughbreds into the half at a 4-4 tie.
 
Melville found Segalas to open the second half scoring, giving Skidmore its first lead of the game.  The Dutchwomen answered back with back-to-back goals from Gould and Emily McGrail to take the lead back.  Each team was responsible for two of the next four goals as Leslie Stebbins and Madden scored for the Thoroughbreds, while Hilary Salander and Fraser scored for Union with Fraser's goal giving the Dutchwomen an 8-7 lead with 8:46 remaining.
 
Segalas tied the game on a free position shot for Skidmore with 5:52 remaining.  Both teams had chances late in regulation but goalies Rachel Klein and Kim Grinhaus came up with big saves down the stretch to send the game to overtime. 
 
Salander would score the only goal of the overtime periods as the Dutchwomen held on for the 9-8 victory. 
 
Evans finished with a goal, four grounds balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers to lead the Thoroughbreds.  Segalas had three goals, while Madden scored twice and Abbie Hamlin and Stebbins added five ground balls and two caused turnovers apiece.  Klein finished with eight saves in goal.
 
For Union, Fraser finished with three goals while Salander and Gould had two goals and an assist each.  McGrail scored once and had six ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers.  Grinhaus ended with eight saves.
 
Skidmore held a 30-19 advantage in ground balls, while Union won 14 of 21 draw controls.
 
The Thoroughbreds host Amherst on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start.
