Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College baseball team erased a seven-run deficit to beat Vassar College 8-7 in eight innings to salvage a Liberty League split Sunday afternoon at Castle Diamond.

The Brewers won the first game 8-4 in nine innings.

Skidmore (12-4, 6-2 Liberty) and Vassar (5-10, 3-5) split the weekend series 2-2, with three of the four games going extra innings.

In the first game, Vassar batted around in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. A.J. Kim keyed the inning with a 3-run, two-out, first-pitch homer.

The Thoroughbreds battled back to tie it 4-4 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Leejay Pollacchi had a two-run double and scored on an Erik Watkins single.

Scheduled for seven innings, the Brewers scored four runs behind a three-run homer by Brett Zaziski in the top of the ninth for the 8-4 final.

Nick Barra (0-1) took the loss in relief, while Zander Mrlik (3-0) won with two innings of scoreless relief.

In the second game, Skidmore's Geoff Green punched a full-count two-out single to center to score pinch runner Jeff Spindel from second to win it in the eighth for the Thoroughbreds.

Vassar opened a 7-0 lead with two runs in the second, four in the third and one in the fourth before Skidmore responded by sending 11 batters to the plate in a five-run fourth to cut the lead to 7-5.

Pollachi and Mike Pannozzi had RBI doubles, while Matty Tattkow and Mo Kreitenberg had RBI singles in the inning.

Skidmore waited until the seventh to tie it 7-7 with two runs.  Casey Quinn and Green opened the inning by getting hit.  The pair advanced on a wild pitch. Quinn scored on a deep Pannozzi sacrifice fly that moved Green to third. Green tied it on a sac fly to left by Tattko to force the extra inning.

The Thoroughbreds avoided trouble in the top of the eighth on a pair of stellar defensive plays. Berra chased down a foul fly at the fence from third base for the second out of the inning and Tatkow ran down a deep right field fly, making the catch at the fence to end the inning with two runners on.

Pannozzi finished 2-3 with a pair of RBI. Green was 2-2 with an RBI, and Zack Rudman was 2-4.  Max Martins (1-0) got the win in relief, allowing no runs on two hits over four innings.

For Vassar, Liam Lee was 2-4 with three RBI. Kim, Dave Robbins, and Dan McCormack each had two hits.  Dennis Tario (1-1) took the loss in relief.
