Section 2 stars lead Skidmore into NCAA tournament

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.--  The Capital District is well represented on the NCAA bound Skidmore College men's basketball team, with four seniors on the roster, including three who make-up the 19-8 team's nucleus.
 
Skidmore will face #3 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (25-1) in the NCAA first round at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at Hartwick College.  Hartwick (23-3) and Farmingdale State (22-5) play in the other semifinal at 7:30 p.m.  The "pod" final is Saturday at 7 p.m.
 
The Thoroughbreds are a senior dominated team with eight on the 15-man roster.
 
Terron Victoria (Albany, N.Y./Bishop Maginn), Gerard O'Shea (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Averill Park), John Mantas (Niskayuna, N.Y./CBA), and Garrett Bush (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) all cut their teeth playing for the region's best high school programs.
 
Victoria was the Liberty League tournament MVP and was All Liberty League Honorable Mention.  He leads a balanced Skidmore offense with 11.8 points per game. With 995 career points is poised to become the 14th 1,000 point scorer in program history.  In addition to offense, he's second on the team with 1.3 steals and 4.2 rebounds per game.
 
A Liberty League First Team All-Star, O'Shea is one of the nation's top point guards with 11.1 points, 5.4 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. Nationally, he's ranked second with a 4.14 assist to turnover ratio, 22nd in assists, and 30th in steals.  He holds the Skidmore career assist (434) and steal (244) marks and is 15th in scoring with 950 points.  His 145 assists this season is also a record.
 
Mantas has been the perfect "sixth-man" this season, averaging 9.0 points, 2.0 assists, and 2.7 assists per game. He is second on the team with 47 3-point field goals. He scored 23 points in the team's Liberty League 76-67 semifinal win over St. Lawrence to earn All-Tournament honors.  Mantas is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection.
 
Bush has played in nine games this season. He earned Liberty League All-Academic Honors in 2011 and 2012.
