Thoroughbreds hold off Saints, 76-75

Box Score Canton, N.Y. - The Skidmore College men's basketball team completed the season sweep of St. Lawrence with a 76-75 victory, Tuesday night at Burkman Gymnasium.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 9-5 in league play and 15-8 overall, while the Saints wrap up their regular season with a 10-6 league and 14-10 overall record.  The win marks the first time Skidmore has won in Canton since the 2004-2005 season as the Thoroughbreds move into second place in the Liberty League with two home games remaining against local rivals Union and RPI.

St. Lawrence got out to an early lead, shooting 8-for-11 to take an 18-6 lead just over five minutes into the game.  The Thoroughbreds' shooting was able to get them back into the game as they hit eight three-pointers in the first half and trailed by one at the half.

In the second half, the teams traded baskets throughout as neither team led by more than five in the final stanza.  With 3:10 remaining, Melvis Langyintuo hit a three to give Skidmore a five point lead, but the Saints were able to cut the lead to one after a free throw from Ralph Temgoua and had a chance to win it on a three at the buzzer but came up short as the Thoroughbreds held on for the win.

Brian Lowry led Skidmore with 20 points, going 4-for-9 from beyond the arc.  Freshman Connor Merrill poured in 14 off the bench while Terron Victoria and Langyintuo finished with 12 and 11, respectively.  Senior Gerard O'Shea chipped in with nine points, eight assists and four steals.

Temgoua had a game-high 22 points for St. Lawrence to go along with six assists.  Terry Parham finished with 19 points, while Garrett Sharlow scored 15 and Tell White added nine points and nine rebounds.

The Thoroughbreds finished 44.8% (13-of-29) from three outscored the Saints' bench 22-4.  Both teams shot well from the floor with Skidmore shooting 53.7% (29-for-54) and St. Lawrence finished at 52.5% (32-for-61).

The Thoroughbreds host RPI on Friday night at 8 p.m. and close out the season against Union on Saturday at 2 p.m.
