Big first half carries Thoroughbreds

Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College field hockey team scored six times in the first half as they breezed to an 8-1 win over Hartwick in Wednesday's non-league matchup at Wagner Park.
 
The 13th-ranked Thoroughbreds improve to 12-4, while the Hawks fall to 6-10.
 
Skidmore came out dominating offensively, putting up three goals in the first 5:44.  Kelly Blackhurst got the scoring started just 22 seconds in on an assist from Ceilidh MacNeill.  She tallied her second of the game and 25th of the season at 3:42 as she beat the defender one-on-one and found the back of the cage before Dani DeGregory added her 10th of the season at 5:44 on a shot from the wing off a Hilary Cranston pass.
 
Hartwick cut the deficit to 3-1 when Kelsey Kimble set up Hiliary Carlson for her fifth goal of the season at 11:31.  After going 16 minutes without a score, the Thoroughbreds pushed the lead back to three goals as Sam Skott redirected a shot from Dani DeGregory at 27:36.  Just a few minutes later it was Pauline Searles redirecting a DeGregory shot for a goal before MacNeill closed out the first half scoring as she beat her defender along the goal line and scored on a tough angle for a 6-1 lead at the break.
 
Skidmore added a pair of goals in the second half en route to an 8-1 win.  Skott scored off another DeGregory assist and Sofia San Marco scored on a penalty corner with the assist going to Maia Paul.
 
Haley McDougall, Amy Beck and Allie Sosinsky all saw time in goal as McDougall earned the win, making two saves in the start.  Megan Campbell took the loss, allowing four goals on seven shots in 15:43, while Kailee Granger allowed four goals on 10 shots in 54:17.  Holley Reynolds chipped in with three defensive saves for the Hawks.
 
It was the third straight game that eight players recorded a point for Skidmore as the Thoroughbreds outshot Hartwick 29-5 and earned 13 penalty corners while allowing none.
 
Skidmore closes out its regular season at home on Saturday against Geneseo.
