Box Score Utica, N.Y. – The Skidmore College field hockey team suffered a 2-1 loss to Utica College, Wednesday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 9-4 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 8-4.
Neither team was able to score in the first half despite Skidmore holding a 9-4 advantage in shots.
Utica got on the board first as Louise Steele-Norton found the back of the cage for her 19
th of the season just under two minutes into the second half. The Thoroughbreds responded just a few minutes later as
Kelly Blackhurst tallied her 20
th goal of the season on a penalty stroke to tie it at 1-1.
Steele-Norton gave the Pioneers the lead back at 56:12 when she took a pass from Alaina Stojkovski and scored from 10 yards out for her second of the game and the eventual game-winner.
The Thoroughbreds had their chances to tie it up late as they had three penalty corners in the final 4:09 but were unable to convert as Utica held on for the 2-1 win.
Haley McDougall took the loss making five saves, while Kells Casey finished with 16 stops in goal for the Pioneers.
Skidmore outshot Utica 20-8 and held a 15-11 advantage in penalty corners.
The Thoroughbreds return to action Saturday at Wheaton.
