Box Score Schenectady, N.Y. - The Skidmore College men's basketball team suffered a 70-67 loss to Union in Friday night's Liberty League matchup at the Viniar Athletic Center.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the league, while the Dutchmen improve to 11-6 overall and 4-5 in league play.
Skidmore held a 39-35 lead at the half and were up by eight after a
Kyle Clark jumper 1:58 into the second half, but the hosts went on an 11-3 run over the next 6:51 to tie it up at 46-46.
Union took its first lead of the half at 56-54 with 5:54 left on a Keven Donohue layup. The Thoroughbreds' last lead was at 3:18, 59-58 after two free throws by
Gerard O'Shea. But the Dutchmen went up by six at 66-60 with 26 seconds left, and held on for the victory.
Melvis Langyintuo led Skidmore with 15 points and
Connor Merrill chipped in with 13 off the bench. O'Shea finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Donohue tallied a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Rusmir Dzanko added 14 points for Union.
The Thoroughbreds shot 45% from the floor compared to 40% for the Dutchmen and held a 36-30 advantage in rebounds.
"Sometime you have to tip you hat to the opponent" said coach Joe Burke. "I thought it was a classic back and forth tough conference game. As usually, it comes down to who makes the plays in the end. Union made more winning plays down the stretch then we did. They were the better team tonight."
"The beauty of this is that we get to go right back at it tomorrow. Hobart is very talented and will be difficult test."
Skidmore hosts Hobart on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip.
