Box Score

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team used a six-run fifth inning to defeat New Paltz, 11-5 in Tuesday afternoon's non-league matchup at Castle Diamond.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 25-8, while the Hawks fall to 20-17.

Zack Rudman got Skidmore on the board in the first, plating Brian Lowry on an RBI groundout after Lowry led off the inning with a double and then stole third. Rudman then added another run in the third when he blasted a solo shot to left, his second of the season, to make it 2-0. Then in the fourth, sophomore Matty Tatkow pushed the lead to 3-0 with a two-out RBI double.

New Paltz pulled within one in the fifth on a two-run homer from Jake Cameron to make it a 3-2 game. But the Thoroughbreds broke through in the bottom half of the inning as they put up six runs in the inning, highlighted by Alex Pavelock's RBI double, extending the lead to 9-2.

The Hawks were able to get within four after posting three runs in the top of the seventh behind RBI's from David Lostaglio and Doug Marshall, but Skidmore responded with two runs in the bottom half to make it 11-5 as neither team would score for the remainder of the game and the Thoroughbreds picked up the win.

Bobby Stafutti got the start, tossing three shutout innings, allowing just two hits to earn the victory and improve to 3-1 on the season.

Brett Harrison suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed three runs on three hits in four innings.
