Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College baseball team dropped a pair to Vassar, losing in the home team's final at bat in both games.

In the first game, Vassar left fielder Sal Costanzo redeemed himself of a costly fielding error as the Vassar scored a 4-3 walkoff win in the first game of a doubleheader against defending Liberty League champions Skidmore,  Saturday at Prentiss field.  A few hours later, Vassar celebrated again as a two-out, two-run walkoff single by second baseman Dave Robbins with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th capped a wild back and forth contest.

With the victories, the Brewers improve to 7-6 on the season (3-3 in League play), while the Thoroughbreds fall to 9-4 (1-3 within the Liberty League). The teams will meet for another doubleheader on Sunday, April 3 at Skidmore, with the first game scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

With two outs and a 3-2 Vassar lead in top of the 7th (and final) inning of the opening contest, Costanzo dropped a fly ball to left by senior pitcher Zack Rudman, allowing the Thoroughbreds to tie the game. Costanzo didn't dwell on his error long, however, coming up to the plate in the bottom of the frame with two outs and Robbins at third. Costanzo hit a sharp ground ball up the right side of the infield to bring the runner home and seal the Brewer win.

For the Thoroughbreds, Rudman ends up with the loss in a complete game effort, allowing all 4 of Vassar's runs—three earned—on 4 hits. His overall record now drops to 1-1. Matty Tatkow was 2-4.

In the second game, the Brewers found themselves in a 4-3 hole entering the home frame of the 11th inning, when, down to their final out, Robbins ripped a single hard up the left side of the infield to score Luongo and Castilla and complete the sweep. The Thoroughbreds had also taken an extra innings lead in the top of the 10th, but an infield single by sophomore short stop Mike Perrone kept the Brewers alive, setting the stage for Robbins' heroics.

Skidmore sophomore Bobby Stafutti, who entered in the 10th inning, gets the loss, falling to 2-1 on the season. Trevor Brucato threw nine strong innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with two walks, and seven strikeouts. Rob Rubenstein was 3-5 with an RBI.
