Laracuente becomes all-time wins leader in 9-6 win over Southern Vermont

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Senior Nick Laracuente improved to 6-0 and became the all-time winningest pitcher in Skidmore College baseball history in Wednesday's 9-6 win over Southern Vermont at Castle Diamond.

Laracuente (Tenafly, N.J.) tossed one scoreless inning in relief to pick up his 21st career victory, breaking the mark set by Spencer Marcus last season.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 15-5 and have now won six straight, while the Mountaineers fall to 7-16.

Skidmore put up two runs in the first on an RBI single from Rob Rubenstein (Highland Park, N.J.) and an RBI groundout by Zack Rudman (Pittsford, N.Y.). They added another run in the second when Isaac Forman (New York, N.Y.) plated Erik Watkins (Sudbury, Mass.) to grab a 3-0 lead after two innings.

Southern Vermont pulled within one on Pat Warrington's two-RBI double off the left field wall in the third and tied it up in the top of the fourth on a home run from Dan Cook.

The Thoroughbreds took the lead back in the fifth on back-to-back home runs from freshmen Rob Safir (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and Mo Kreitenberg (Los Alamitos, Calif.) to make it a 6-3 game.

The Mountaineers picked up a run in the seventh to get it to 6-4, but Skidmore posted three runs in the eighth on a Rubenstein RBI single and a pair of bases-loaded walks by Kreitenberg and Mike Pannozzi (Providence, R.I.) to extend the lead to 9-4.

Southern Vermont scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth but Forman caught the final batter looking to secure the 9-6 win for the Thoroughbreds.

Laracuente struck out one and walked one, while extending his scoreless innings streak to 17.2 to pick up the win.

Will Warner took the loss for the Mountaineers, allowing six runs on 12 hits in five innings of work.

Safir and Rubenstein each went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI for Skidmore, while Cook had two hits and Warrington finished with three RBI for Southern Vermont.

Skidmore returns to Liberty League action on Saturday at Union.
