Box Score

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College men's basketball team opened the second semester with an 81-72 loss to Norwich University, Wednesday night at the Williamson Sports Center.

The Thoroughbreds are 6-3, while the Cadets even their record at 4-4.

Skidmore struggled from the floor, shooting 28 percent on 21 of 75 attempts. The Thoroughbred defense kept it close, scoring 19 points off 24 Norwich turnovers.

Melvis Langyintuo led Skidmore with 26 points, including 6-10 from three-point range. He also added seven rebounds and a pair of blocks. Jeff Altimar chipped in 15 points, while Terron Victoria had a team-high five steals.

Cori Boston scored 23 for the Cadets and added nine rebounds and three assists. Josh Cabrera scored 16 and Darel Marshall went 9-11 from the free throw line to finish with 14 points.

Norwich broke the game open with a late 13-4 run. Up by one 60-59 with 7:43 to play, the Cadets went 4-5 from the floor and 5-5 from the line to take a 73-63 lead with 3:27 left. The Thoroughbreds couldn't get any closer than six the rest of the way.

“Obviously tonight was a struggle for us,  we looked and played like we haven't been on the court for awhile which is disappointing" coach Joe Burke said.  "This is a no excuse program and no matter what the situation is we have to be better than that. The responsibility falls on all of us including myself. We need to do a better job and get back to playing ball like we are capable of.”

“Credit Norwich for bringing the energy, in situations like this usually the team that plays with a sense of urgency pulls it out. I thought Norwich played that way tonight and deserved to win the game” added Burke.
“Our schedule is extremely difficult going forward. We play the #4 team in the country on Saturday  and then we start league play.  We must get better starting tomorrow. I have confidence that this group will respond.”

Skidmore is at #6 Middlebury College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
