Canton, N.Y.-- St. Lawrence University junior Ralph Temgoua scored a career-high 29 points, including 17 in the second half, as the Saints' men's basketball team rallied past Skidmore College in the Burkman Gymnasium on Saturday by the score of 74-66.

The Thoroughbreds are 3-2 in Liberty League play and 9-6 overall, while the Saints are 3-1 and 7-7.

Temgoua finished 7-of-14 from the field including 4-of-6 from the behind the arc. The Paris, France native was also solid from the free throw line, where he was 11-of-12 for the 29 points.

Skidmore, which was led offensively by Melvis Langyintuo's 19 points, held the lead for the final 18:00 minutes of the first half. The Thoroughbreds' largest lead lingered at seven points until Kevin Dahill converted a pair of free throws with 4:38 left in the first half to push the margin to nine, 28-19. However, St. Lawrence responded with an 8-1 run to close the half trailing by only two, 29-27.

St. Lawrence took the lead midway through the second half, 46-45, with a pair of free throws and used an 8-0 run to pull ahead 53-45 with 9:50 remaining in the game.

Skidmore continued to battle, as it pulled to within four a few times down the stretch. However, the Saints hit two three-pointers in a 2:00 minute span to push the lead back to nine at 65-56.

Though the Thoroughbreds got as close as five with 2:55 to go after two free throws by Jeff Altimar, Temgoua put the game out of reach by converting a three-point play with 2:29 remaining.

Langyintuo's 19 points came thanks to a 5-for-10 mark from behind the arc, while Gerard O'Shea also added 18 points for the visitors. Kevin Dahill and Altimar also added 12 and 9 points, respectively.

"Today was a physical tough battle," said Skidmore coach Joe Burke.  "St. Lawrence are the champs of this league until somebody can take it from them and they were good today. I thought we fought till the end but came up a little short.

"Temgoua was terrific in the 2nd half, when a great player gets it going like that you sometimes have to tip your hat.

"We certainly are looking forward to coming home. Having these road weekends back to back was a difficult test but we feel good that we can compete with everybody in the league. Tuesday is just a great opportunity. Williams is arguably the best team in the country. To get to play them in our gym will be something special."
