Box Score

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College men's basketball team held Union College to 16 second-half points on the way to a 67-41 Liberty League win at the Williamson Sports Center.

It was the league opener for both teams. The Thoroughbreds are 7-4 overall, while the Dutchmen fall to 8-4.

Up 38-33 with 13:00 to play in the game, Skidmore went on a 25-3 run over the next six minutes to put the game away.

Melvis Langyintuo scored all of his game-high 15 points in the second half for the Thoroughbreds. Kyle Clark had a double/double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Gerard O'Shea (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Averill Park) and John Mantas (Niskayuna, N.Y./CBA) contributed 10 points for the well balanced Skidmore offense. O'Shea also had six assists and a pair of steals.

Keven Donohue (Hudson Falls, N.Y./Hudson Falls) led Union with 15 points and eight rebounds.

“I thought our energy on the defensive end was crucial tonight," said Skidmore coach Joe Burke.  "Union has some good offensive players and it was important for us to defend well so we could get the tempo of the game where we needed it. I was proud of how we executed the game plan.

“Offensively we had our moment's, but we still have a lot of work to do.   We got in to a little bit of a rhythm in the second half  but we need to be more consistent in our attack.

"This coming weekend will be an extremely difficult challenge playing two great teams on the road. We can enjoy this win for a night but come tomorrow we need to shift our focus to Hobart and Hamilton."

The Thoroughbred bench outscored the Dutchmen 21-6. Skidmore scored 19 points off 18 Union turnovers.

Next up for the Thoroughbreds is a league road weekend at Hobart on Friday at 8 p.m. and Hamilton on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Dutchmen are at Hamilton on Friday and Hobart on Saturday.
