PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Following a scoreless first period, Skidmore's
Diego Reinero scored his team leading third goal in the 69th minute to put the Thoroughbreds on board. Skidmore tallied two more unanswered goals on the way to a 3-0 victory over Southern Maine in game one of the Cardinal Classic.
Gildas Giriman picked up a goal and two assists in the Skidmore victory, who improve to 2-0 on the season. The Huskies fall to 0-1.
Skidmore recorded 11 shots to Southern Maine's nine. Skidmore's Matt Kelsey led the team with three shots, followed by Reinero with two. Nick Peterson played all 90 minutes in net for the Thoroughbreds, earning the shut out with six saves.
For the Huskies, Nick Johnson topped the team with three shots, followed by Alex Burnham with two. Southern Maine goalkeeper David Kreps had four saves on the evening. Sophomore Jeremy Turner split time with Kreps in goal, picking up one save in just under six minutes of play.
The Cardinal Classic continues on Saturday, September 4 at the Fieldhouse Complex. The first game will feature Skidmore vs. Lehman at 3 p.m. The Cardinals will take on Southern Maine at 5:30 p.m.
