SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The second-seeded Skidmore College men's soccer team fell to third-seeded Vassar, 2-0, in the semifinals round of the Liberty League Tournament hosted at Wachenheim Field on Friday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds (10-4-3) battled after conceding a pair of first half goals, pressing hard in the second half but were unable to break through as the Brewers (11-5-3) packed the defensive third and held firm through the final whistle.
Skidmore wraps up a successful 2025 campaign that was highlighted by a historic regular season to clinch the first ever top-two seeded finish, resulting in the second-consecutive Liberty League Tournament semifinals appearance under head coach
Brad Campion.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Brewers scored first in the 24th minute when a cross from Diego Pastor-Valverde perfectly connected with Mauricip Mejia to break through the Skidmore backline.
- In the 31st minute, Vassar increased the lead when a blocked shot by Zapp Hotz ricocheted directly to Mejia for the uncontested shot across the net.
- Junior Colin Goodhines created Skidmore's best scoring chances in the first half, firing two strong shots on target in the 30th and 37th minutes that were both turned aside.
- Throughout the second half, Skidmore went on the full offensive in an attempt to break through a compact Vassar defense that loaded up the backline.
- The Thoroughbreds tallied ten shot attempts as a team in the half – with eight coming in the final 20 minutes – but a swarming Brewers defense did just enough to deny Skidmore's best chances down the stretch.
