Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College men's soccer team tied St. Vincent College 0-0 in the first game of the Skidmore Alumni Soccer Tournament, Friday night at Wachenheim Field. The Thoroughbreds are 3-0-1, while the Bearcats are 0-4-1.
St. Vincent will player RIT at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the tournament's second game, while Skidmore will play RIT at 2 p.m. Sunday in the third and final game.
The Thoroughbreds dominated the contest, outshooting the Bearcats 28-4. The first and only St. Vincent shot on goal came with 10 seconds left in the first overtime when Clemente Mejia tried to sneak one on the ground past Thoroughbred goalie
Steve Vasquez. Vasquez had no trouble making the save for his second straight shutout.
St. Vincent goalie Jake Gilbertson finished with 11 saves. Gilbertson stopped a point blank shot by Skidmore's
Doug Yeates with 18:11 to play in the first half and made another tough stop on Gildas Giriman with 8:12 to play in the first overtime to preserve the tie.
