Thoroughbreds split with Clarkson

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.—The Skidmore College baseball team earned a split in Liberty League action against Clarkson on Friday afternoon at Castle Diamond with the Thoroughbreds taking game one, 6-1 and the Golden Knights winning game two, 16-6.
 
Skidmore is now 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the league, while Clarkson is now 4-9 overall and 3-3 league.
  
First Game:
 
Zack Rudman  went 2-3 with a two-run homer to dead center and Trevor Brucato allowed only one run to lead the Thoroughbreds to the 6-1 win.
 
Clarkson scored its only run of the game to take a 1-0 lead in the second. Brady Torbitt singled, advanced to second on a David Kinney single, stole third and then scored on a fielders choice.
 
Skidmore quickly took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Rudman and Matt Pisani opened the innings with singles. Mike Jaffe then beat out an infield bunt and all the runners advanced with Rudman scoring after a late throwing error to first.   Adam Cornachione drove Pisani in with a sacrifice fly.
 
The Thoroughbreds scored two more in the third on Redman's blast that cleared the 385 sign in straight center. Skidmore scored twice in the fourth when Jaffe opened the inning with a double and then scored on a Cornachione single. Cornachione later scored on Anthony Ferri's bases loaded single to make it 6-1.
 
Brucato got the complete game win, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. David Goerold took the loss for Clarkson.
 
Second Game:
 
Kinney had five hits, including two of the Golden Knights' four home runs and Jordan Yells tossed 5.2 innings of scoreless relief to help lead Clarkson to a 14-6 victory.
 
The Golden Knights broke the game open with a seven-run sixth inning, highlighted by Brett Peplowski's three-run home run.
 
Rudman finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two walks and Pisani also had two hits and drove in a run for the Thoroughbreds.
 
Yells earned the win for the Golden Knights and Nick Laracuente suffered his first loss of the season.
 
Skidmore and Clarkson face off tomorrow in another doubleheader, beginning at noon.
