#7 Panthers stop late Thoroughbred run for 80-67 win

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.—The seventh-ranked Middlebury College men's basketball team improved to 11-1 with an 80-67 win over Skidmore College, Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center. The Thoroughbreds fall to 7-4.

The Panthers used a 22-7 run over the final 8:31 of the first half to lead 47-28 at the break. Ryan Sharry had 14 of his team-high 19 points in the first half, including four during the run. Sharry had a double/double with 13 rebounds.

In the second half, Middlebury opened up a 29-point lead, 64-35, with 14:10 to play and led by 23 with 6:43 left, 72-49. The Thoroughbreds battled back with an 18-3 run to cut the lead to eight, 75-67 with 1:11 to play, but the Panthers used inside baskets by Jamal Davis and Jake Wolfin in the final minute to preserve the win.

Brian Lowery (West Hartford, Conn./St. George's School) led Skidmore with 20 points off the bench. Terron Victoria (Albany, N.Y./Bishop Maginn) scored nine points and had three steals. Jeff Altimar (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) added eight points on a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.

Also for the Panthers, Ryan Wholey scored 14 points and Nolan Thompson added 10 points and seven rebounds. Andrew Lock had six blocks and seven points.

Middlebury had a 53-29 rebound advantage, scoring 28 second-chance points.

Skidmore will open Liberty League action at Union on Tuesday in an 8 p.m. game.
