Castleton, VT - Castleton placed five players in double-figures en route to a 72-68 win over visiting Skidmore in men's basketball action Sunday evening at Glenbrook Gymnasium. With the win Castleton improves to 5-4 overall, while Skidmore falls to 7-2.
The Thoroughbreds shot 51.6% from the field in the fist half to race out to the lead, including an 8-for-18 performance from beyond the three-point arch. Trailing 39-28 with 3:35 remaining in the first half,
the Spartans closed out the opening stanza on a 12-4 run to keep the game within reach. The run continued into the second half, as the Spartans tallied the first six points to grab a 46-43 lead.
Castleton trailed just once more, 50-49 with 14:34 remaining in the contest, before a three-pointer gave the Spartans the lead for good with 13:20 left.
Sakhile Sithole (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) led the Thoroughbreds with 13 points off the bench, while
Jon Douglas (Shutesbury, MA) added 12. Skidmore cooled in the second half, shooting 2-for-16 from beyond the arch and 27.6% from the field.
