Williams defeats Skidmore baseball, 15-6

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Williams College baseball team collected 18 hits and 15 runs to record a 15-6 non-conference win over Skidmore College Tuesday afternoon at Castle Diamond.
 
The Ephs have now won 10 of their last 11 games to improve to 21-8. The Thoroughbreds fall to 20-16.
 
Williams broke out of the gate quickly with six runs in the first two innings as junior Al Mathews (North Hampton, N.H.) hit two RBI singles and scored a run during the stanza to pace the visitors to a 6-0 lead.
 
Senior Justin Morelli (East Setauket, N.Y.) drove a double to deep left field in the bottom of the third to drive in juniors Anthony Ferri (Jersey City, N.Y.) and Jeremy Goldman (Moraga, Calif.) to put Skidmore on the board and cut the lead to 6-2. 
 
The Ephs responded with two in the fourth as junior Robin Allemand (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) homered and classmate Chad Brown (Pittsfield, Mass.) hit an RBI single up the middle to extend the lead back to four.
 
Both squads were then held scoreless until the seventh when junior Jake Mendell (St. George, Vt.) hit an RBI single Logan Arena (Upton, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch to put the score at 8-4.
 
Williams took the four-run lead into the ninth and exploded for seven runs, aided by a two-run triple from Allemand. Skidmore tacked on two in the bottom half of the inning, but could not overcome the deficit..
 
The Thoroughbreds were led by Mendell who was 3-for-5 on the day with one RBI and one run scored. Senior Ed Reilly (Tenafly, N.J.) picked up two hits, while Morelli and sophomore Rob Rubenstein (Highland Park, NJ) each had two RBI.
 
Brown was 3-for-5 for the visitors with two RBI and two runs scored and Mathews finished with two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored. 
 
Sophomore Wilson Barr (Saint Helena, Calif.) pitched five strong innings for Williams, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts to pick up the win.
 
Junior James Bradley (Yardley, Pa.) took the loss for Skidmore.
 
The Thoroughbreds move into their final weekend of regular season play as they host RPI on Saturday in a Liberty League doubleheader at 12 p.m.
