Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Hamilton College women's soccer team took advantage of a late corner and scored in the 89th minute to defeat Skidmore College 1-0 in Wednesday's Liberty League semifinal game at Wachenheim Field.
Freshman Meg Pengue's corner kick found its way through a crowd of offensive and defensive players and to the back of the net at the 88:11 mark for the lone goal in Hamilton's 1-0 victory.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 11-4-3 and Hamilton improves to 9-5-1.
Continental keeper Kate Fowler played strong defensively. She was able to turn away many Skidmore opportunities including a diving save late in the second half to rob sophomore
Elena Stansky (Worcester, Mass.) and keep the Thoroughbreds off the scoreboard.
Junior
Lindsay Schmitt (Mendon, Mass.) played an all-around good game, making several tackles late to stop any Hamilton scoring chances and goalie
Meghan Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) came up with a big save late in the first half to keep it tied at 0-0.
Skidmore outshot the Continentals 18-5. Sleezer made one save for the Thoroughbreds and Fowler stopped seven shots for Hamilton.
