Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – A 40-26 second-half advantage pushed the Clarkson University men to a 73-60 Liberty League win over Skidmore College Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center.
Clarkson is 1-1 in conference play and 10-3 overall. The Thoroughbreds fall to 5-9 and 0-3 in league play.
Skidmore held a 34-33 lead at the half before the Golden Knights pulled away in the second. A lay-up by sophomore Rey Jefferson (Budd Lake, N.Y.) broke a 46-46 tie with 10:59 left to play. The visitors held the lead the rest of the way.
Clarkson held a 38-24 rebounding edge and was helped by 36 points off of the bench.
Skidmore shot a solid 21-24 (87.5 %) from the free-throw line and forced 19 Golden Knight turnovers in the contest.
Thoroughbred freshman
Gerard O'Shea (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Averill Park) scored a game-high 16 and fellow rookie
Melvis Langyintuo (Tamale, Ghana) added 11 points and nine rebounds.
Junior Brandon Linton (Queens, N.Y.) led five Golden Knights in double figures with 14 points, while tallying nine assists. Juniors Keith Murray (Queens, N.Y.) and Elson Pickering (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each finished with 13 points.
Skidmore travels to Hobart College on Jan. 23 for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
