Men drop non-league game at Middlebury, 72-62

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. –The Middlebury men's basketball team won its eighth straight with a 72-62 win over Skidmore in Pepin Gym.

Middlebury came out firing, taking a 21-5 lead at the 11:34 mark, with all five starters in the scoring column. Trailing by 14, Skidmore went on a 10-2 run behind three straight hoops from Bobby Langford to cut the lead to 25-17 with 5:09 left in the half. The lead increased to as many as 11 before a three at the buzzer from Sam Cohen-Devries made it a 32-25 game.
Skidmore kept chipping away, coming within one on a dunk from Langford at the 14:32 mark. Middlebury answered with an 8-0 run. The Thoroughbreds cut the lead to five on a pair of Cohen-Devries free throws, but that as close as they'd get as the Panther went on to earn the 72-62 win.
Langford led Skidmore with 18 points and 13 boards, while Jake Schechtman chipped in with nine points.  Skidmore will open Liberty League play at home Tuesday against Union College at 8 p.m.
