Skidmore men improve to 4-3 with 75-60 win

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Junior forward Jon Douglas (Shutesbury, Mass.) led four Thoroughbreds in double-figures as the Skidmore College men's basketball team blew by Castleton State, 75-60, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
It is the second-straight win for the Thoroughbreds, who improve to 4-3 this season. Castleton remains winless at 0-6.
 
Skidmore took a big first-half lead and never looked back, helped by a 22-0 run after a Castleton three-pointer at 18:09. The Thoroughbreds held the Spartans scoreless during the 13:48 span, taking a 39-18 advantage into the intermission. 
 
A tough Thoroughbred defense held Castleton to just 17.9 percent shooting (5-28) in the first stanza and 29.7 percent (19-64) for the game.
 
Skidmore also held a hefty 64-43 advantage on the boards, including a 26-7 lead on offensive rebounds, and scored 14 points off of 20 Castleton turnovers in the contest.
 
Sophomore guard Jeff Altimar (Medfield, Mass.) scored in double-figures for the second straight game as he finished with 14 points for the Thoroughbreds. Senior Jake Shechtman(Wynnewood, Pa.) added 11 points and eight rebounds, and freshman Dylan Malloy (Holden, Mass.) posted 10 points. 
 
Sophomore Michael Carrier (Burlington, Vt.) led the Spartans with 14 points, while senior Rubin Jennings (Hempstead, N.Y.) and freshman Mat Roulier (Carver, Mass.) each contributed 12 points off the bench for Castleton.
 
Skidmore will be in action next when they host Paul Smith's College on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
