Amherst, MA – The New York City College of Technology Yellow Jackets faced off against the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds in the second game of the Amherst College Ken Wright '52 Memorial Invitational Tournament. Skidmore pulled out an 88-82 win to set up Saturday's championship game with Amherst, while NYCCT will take on Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in the consolation game.
Junior forward Jon Douglas (Shutesbury, MA) started things off for the Thoroughbreds by knocking down two three-pointers in the opening minutes of the game. The Yellow Jackets kept it close with the help of first-year center James Abrams (Brooklyn, NY), who scored 13 first-half points and pulled in five rebounds. Senior forward Sam Cohen-Devries (New York, NY) added six points (four in the closing seconds) to put the Thoroughbreds up 42-37 at the half.
Senior guard Yvon Dantes (Brooklyn, NY) scored a total of 21 points for City Tech, 19 of which came in the second half. Jamaal Hall (Brooklyn, NY) added some senior leadership by totaling 20 points, six rebounds and four assists to keep the Yellow Jackets close throughout the second half. With their scoring efforts the Yellow Jackets were able to cut the Skidmore lead to as little as three.
Sophomore guard Jeff Altimar (Medfield, MA) knocked down five three-pointers for the Thoroughbreds and finished with a total of 19 points and six rebounds. Jon Douglas (Shutesbury, MA) led all scorers with 23 points, four rebounds, and one assist. First-year point guard Terron Victoria (Albany, NY) blocked a desperation three point attempt as time expired to seal the victory for the Thoroughbreds.
New York City Tech will play MCLA Saturday in the consolation game at 1 p.m., while Skidmore advances to play the host Lord Jeffs tomorrow at 3 p.m.
