No. 24 Skidmore advances to Liberty League title match with 4-1 semifinal win over Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team will play in its first conference title match since 2022 after a 4-1 semifinal win over Ithaca College on Saturday.
  • Skidmore, ranked 22nd nationally, will face off against top-seeded No. 27 Vassar College on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. for the title. It would be Skidmore's first championship since 2021, and Vassar's first since 2013.
  • Ithaca, ranked 54th, had its lone point come at No. 2 singles.
  • In doubles, Harrison Gradin and Yuval Goodman put Skidmore (15-5) on the board with a 6-4 win over Fidler/Vaada. Then, Kyle Lundberg and Ege Topbas beat out Lopez-Cardenas/Kisic, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point for the Thoroughbreds.
  • The Ithaca (11-8) team had a slim 5-4 lead at No. 2 doubles.
  • Topbas, Nika Mori, and Radin Sadeghi had singles wins to close it out.
  • Goodman was within a few points of winning at No. 1 singles, and Fletcher King was up one set to none and in a 5-5 second set when the match was completed.
  • Topbas made it 2-0 with a quick 6-2, 6-0 win over Siddarth Vaada.
  • Then, Mori put the team within a point with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Alex Mazza at sixth singles.
  • Ivan Kisic closed out the next decision for the Bombers to make it 3-1, but Sadeghi had yet another clinching 6-3, 6-3 win over Carlos Hernandez at fifth singles to end it.
  • Vassar defeated Union by the same 4-1 score earlier in the day to clinch the first championship match spot.
  • Tomorrow will be the eighth all-time Liberty League championship match between Skidmore and Vassar, and first since 2013. Skidmore is 5-2 in those seven previous championship bouts.
  • The Brewers defeated the Thoroughbreds, 6-1, on April 25.
