Bombers sweep Thoroughbreds to take series 2-1

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team was swept on the road at Ithaca on Saturday afternoon, 5-3 and 8-4.

  • Ithaca scored four of its five runs over the first two innings.
  • In the first, Camden Laney hit a two-run home run to right to open the scoring. Then, in the second, Ethan Daddabbo singled in the third Ithaca run and scored from first on a Sheldon Jay Walker III double to make it 4-0.
  • Landon Schwartzman led off the top of the third with a home run to cut the Skidmore deficit to three, and Ethan Galvao drove a double the opposite way to score Nate Vandersea, who walked and moved to second on a ground out.
  • Ithaca settled for one on a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the bottom of the fifth on a Lucas Orlovitz sacrifice fly.
  • Quinn McDonald got hit by a pitch with one out in the ninth and Schwartzman walked to bring up the tying run. Holden Caney picked up an RBI on a fly ball to centerfield, but Zelinko induced an infield popup to end it.
  • Skidmore managed just three hits against Ithaca pitching – two of them went for extra bases.
  • Walker III went 4-for-5 for the Bombers. On the mount, Jack Picozzi went seven innings with nine strikeouts for the win. Zelinko picked up his sixth save.

  • Orlovitz tripled to lead off the third and came in on an Isaiah Smith single to make it 3-0 in the third.
