SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team struck first but ultimately fell to No. 1 Middlebury, 20-1, at Wachenheim Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Phoebe Ross broke the program's career assists record after recording her 70th assist on a pass to senior
Allison Brewer in the first quarter, giving the Thoroughbreds (3-1) a surprising early lead. However, the Panthers (2-0) controlled the remainder of the match, finishing with a 36-7 edge in shot attempts and a 19-4 advantage in draw controls.
Ross surpassed Lindsay Stavola's previous program record of 69 assists, set from 2009–11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Skidmore struck first after capitalizing on a player-up opportunity, as Ross connected with Brewer for the goal to give the Thoroughbreds a 1-0 lead with 12:28 remaining in the first quarter.
- Middlebury responded with six goals to close the opening period and added five more in the second to take an 11-1 lead into halftime.
- The Panthers continued their momentum in the second half, scoring seven times in the third quarter before adding two goals in the fourth.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
- Brewer's goal was her fifth on the season and 23rd as a Thoroughbred.
- Ross's record-breaking assist was her 11th on the season.
- Senior Brooke LaVallee led the team with two caused turnovers.
