Thoroughbreds win 5-2 over Hobart to open Liberty League schedule

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team opened Liberty League play with a 5-2 win over visiting Hobart College at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center on Saturday.
  • Skidmore, ranked 35th nationally, is 5-3 overall.
  • Hobart is 6-2.
  • Kyle Lundberg, Ege Topbas, and Radin Sadeghi all won twice for the Thoroughbreds, who swept doubles and then went 4-2 in singles play.
  • Sadeghi and Mahen Bitkuri got the team off to a hot start with a 6-2 decision over Ranadive/Martinez-Barelles in third doubles.
  • Then, Lundberg and Topbas topped Kousaridis/Reid, 7-5, to clinch the point.
  • Nika Mori and Fletcher King won for good measure in a 7-3 tiebreak.
  • In singles, Sadeghi worked back from a slow start for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Reid in the No. 5 spot.
  • At first singles, Yuval Goodman stepped in for a 6-4, 6-4 win over Nick Fischer.
  • Lundber also worked a quick straight-set 6-2, 6-3 win over Kousaridis.
  • Topbas got through a challenge from Michael Georgelis in the second set, but prevailed 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
  • The win avenged the last two years in which the Statesmen claimed regular season decisions. Skidmore had won 22 in a row before that.
