SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. –
Ryan Stratton scored with 1:23 remaining in overtime to give the Skidmore College men's hockey team a hard-fought 2-1 win over Fredonia State on Friday night.
- Skidmore (10-9-2, 7-6-1 SUNYAC) keeps its hold of fourth place in the conference with four games remaining. The Thoroughbreds have 16 points and can clinch a playoff spot as early as Saturday.
- Fredonia is 3-16-1 and 3-9-1 – currently in a three-way tie for seventh thanks to the point earned by forcing overtime. The top eight reach the playoffs.
- In overtime, Stratton corralled a rebound, spun around a defender, and buried a wrist shoot over the glove for Skidmore's second overtime winner in a row. The Thoroughbreds won at Cortland in the extra session last Saturday. Mitchell Floccare and Cooper Rice had the assists on the winner.
- Sam Saccone gave Skidmore the lead just before the clock expired in the first period when his shot trickled through and crossed the line just before the buzzer. Bryce Terry and Bryan Tang assisted on Saccone's first goal of the year.
- Hudson Cameron scored on a rebound for Fredonia with 2:09 left in the second period to tie it up.
- Skidmore finished with a 50-27 advantage in shots on goal. Charles-Anthony Barbeau had 48 saves, including 20 in the second period, to keep the visitors in it.
- Kyle Ozgun earned his second win of the year for Skidmore with 26 saves including a pair of key stops in overtime that kept play going.
- Neither team was presented with a power play opportunity. Each of the game's four penalties were matching.
- Skidmore won the faceoff battle, 34-24, as Oscar Worob went 11-2 (84.6 percent). Coleman Jenkins also had 11 wins.
